Become Well-rounded in Life Through MMA Training
Want to get in shape and learn to kick butt? At VAMMA MMA Gym in Vancouver, we’ve got you covered. Learn mixed martial arts in a safe environment with like-minded people who are in it to win it. MMA is where it’s at, combining the latest martial arts and martial science with traditional forms. At our MMA training in Vancouver, you’ll learn everything you need to know about MMA from some of the greatest in the business.
Believe it or not, MMA is not new. It’s been around for thousands of years. People have been mixing martial arts styles for as long as they’ve been mixing other cultural aspects such as art and science. Many people like to hold onto tradition, which is why there is often the debate of which martial arts are better, but mixed martial artists know that learning from many different martial arts give them an advantage by utilizing the best techniques to build endurance and stamina.
MMA is about living a well-rounded life. Just like you’re pulling the best techniques from the best martial arts in order to have an effective arsenal of self-defence techniques at your disposal, but you’re also learning how to motivate yourself, how to push your limits, how to foster a better you, and how to overcome obstacles in the gym that you will soon generalize to every aspect of your life. Learning martial arts helps people become better versions of themselves because it translates into the real world by building confidence, passion, and internal drive.
One of the traditional martial arts we offer is Muay Thai, which is an ancient art first developed in Thailand hundreds of years ago as a way to develop the entire body as a weapon. In MMA training, you’ll learn to use your feet, hands, fists, elbows, and knees as well as your hips, shoulders, and even your forehead as weapons. Muay Thai training can help foster many of these skills.
Known as “The Art of the Eight Limbs,” Muay Thai is an amazing martial art that not only teaches you how to defend yourself but also generates a high intensity work out, as you’re using your arms and legs to kick, strike, jab, and punch, thus developing strength in your core and throughout your whole body. As a form of self-defence, Muay Thai has been proven on the battlefield during many historical wars and conflicts in the area where it originated.
We don’t stop there, though. We also teach traditional Western boxing concepts at our boxing gym in Vancouver. From Muhammad Ali to Mike Tyson and everyone in between, before, and after, boxing is a sport ingrained in the Western world about as much as hot dogs and apple pie. Boxing requires speed, agility, precision, and power, and when you’re training to become a boxer, you don’t have time to slow down or give up. If you want to challenge yourself and learn to overcome all of life’s obstacles, then boxing is for you.
At our boxing gym Vancouver, we’ll teach you how to bob and weave, how to maintain your footing, how to keep yourself in the right zone to maximize distance and maintain defense, how to anticipate your opponent, and how to jab, strike, punch, and keep moving. As Muhammad Ali is often famously quoted as saying, you’ll learn to “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.”
Want to add some kicks to your routine? There’s always Muay Thai, but we also teach kickboxing as well. Our kickboxing classes in Vancouver will teach you everything you need to know to use your feet and knees to strike and kick. As mentioned earlier, this is going to build your endurance and build your core. This will also help you improve balance, which again can be translated into daily life, as we all have to juggle stressors of work-life balance. By building your stamina and improving your balance, you’ll be better equipped to deal with what life has to throw at you. You’ll sleep better, eat healthier, and as a result have a better life overall. Passion for the martial arts also translates into passion for life. You’ll find that the more you train, the more you start breaking down the walls of low self-esteem and low self-confidence. You’ll have more passion, more drive, and more wherewithal to do the things you’ve always wanted to do.
But there’s still more. We don’t just have a Muay Thai gym Vancouver and kickboxing classes Vancouver; we also offer training in BJJ or Brazilian jui jitsu. The benefit of coming to us rather than going to a Brazilian jui jitsu gym that only teaches BJJ is that at our Brazilian jui jitsu gym you get the added benefit of learning from trainers who can also teach you boxing, kickboxing, and Muay Thai. Our Brazilian jui jitsu Vancouver and Muay Thai training Vancouver offer very traditional approaches to martial arts and are great complements to one another. Muay Thai training Vancouver will teach you how to use your core, knees, elbows, feet, hands, and fists to defend yourself, while Brazilian jui jitsu will teach you how to take down opponents and defend yourself from a ground position. These two arts go hand-in-hand because you never know if a self-defense situation will finish while you’re standing up or if it’ll end up on the ground. You’ll never know if you’ll be surrounded by obstacles that requires close-quarters training or if you’ll be in an open space where you can take an opponent down. This is why cross-training in mixed martial arts is so important. Not only does training this way boost your confidence and build your athleticism, but it also helps you prepare for the unknown. This can translate into defending yourself if you ever need to, or it can translate into other areas of life.
The focus of Brazilian jui jitsu Vancouver is on the fundamentals of traditional jui jitsu training. Originally, jui jitsu started in Japan. It later evolved into judo in Japan, but in Brazil, it evolved into BJJ. The foundation of the art is rooted in the belief that a smaller opponent can overcome a larger opponent using leverage, precision, ground skills, and body movement. Again, we can draw parallels to life. People are often taught to give each other space, which can lead some people to be wary of others around them. This can lead to all kinds of problems in life. When you train in grappling and ground-fighting, you are forced to push your limits. You are forced to break out of your comfort zone. You are put in positions where you may not be comfortable, but you learn to dominate the situation and become your best.
If I wanted to train in any of these arts, I’d want to find a kickboxing gym near me that also taught Muay Thai, a boxing gym near me that also taught kickboxing, kickboxing classes near me that also taught jui jitsu, Brazilian jui jitsu training near me that also taught boxing, What I’m saying is that I’d want MMA training near me that taught me all of these skills. I’d want an MMA gym near me that wouldn’t hold back–that would give me a well-rounded curriculum that would push me to improve every time I trained. I’d want MMA classes near me that I could count on to teach me how to use my whole body to train and to defend myself if necessary.
See, that’s why cross-training makes the most sense. You get the benefits of learning to use your feet, your hands, your elbows, your knees, your fists, and your entire body through various disciplines that are all going to complement each other and teach you the best way to stand, the best way to move, and the best way to act and react to situations that require speed and discipline. Again, if I was looking for MMA training near me, I’d look for one that was offered in a boxing gym near me so I could learn fundamentals, basic stances, and how to use my arms and upper torso to move and strike. If I was looking for MMA classes near me, I’d look for ones that also offered a kickboxing gym near me so I could build on my boxing foundations and learn to also use my legs in combat. These kickboxing classes near me would also give me a different perspective on my boxing training, helping me be a more well-rounded person in and out of the gym. If I was looking for an MMA gym near me, I’d look for one that offered Muay Thai training as well, to expand on what I’ve learned from boxing and kickboxing–to teach me to use my knees and elbows in close situtions. I’d also want to find an MMA gym that taught Brazilian jui jitsu training near me so I would not be limited to standing up, striking, and kicking; I would also be able to go to the ground and roll with my opponent if necessary.
They say in life that you’ve got to roll with the punches and keep picking yourself up. When you train in MMA, you learn to go to the ground smoothly and get up with ease. You learn to move with your opponent or whatever life has to throw at you. You learn to be flexible, confident, and motivated. This can apply to everything you do, and it’s why people who train in MMA are changing their lives for the better every day.
